I work in a nursery! So there's no access to adult sized chairs 9 hours a day, 4 days a week. The stupid tiny wooden ones just hurt so Id rather sit on the floor all day. I sit on the floor at home now too! I wish I could eat on the floor but I have 4 dogs, not sure how that would go...
I've dreamed of doing this, but there's no way my wife would go for it. Also, the floor is the dog's domain, so it's impossible to keep it free of dirt and hair brought in with him from walks. I do sit on the floor quite a lot, but not as much as I would like. Your floor-sitting Lent journal is a strange thing to envy, but I do :-)
Great question! Nursing babies in other cultures often is a much faster thing - many small top ups with a baby who is in a sling or carried in arms. Breastfeeding on the go is common. I've also seen women nursing in hammocks, sitting on the floor or on a log. The long resting breast feeding sessions are enabled in our culture partly because of the comfortable chairs. It's amazing how many parts of our culture have been changed by chairs...

Those tiny chairs look so cute but are super uncomfortable! I can imagine that would be excellent 'environmental restructuring'!
And I also have food-stealing pets! Fortunately, my friendly house rabbits can't open doors, but I bet that at least one of your dogs can... :D

It was one of those life-changing challenges! I totally understand the barriers though - the way we live is not set up for easy floor sitting.
What an insightful essay! I have never given a second thought to chairs; floor sitting with a baby is a daily labor, to be sure.
And with the new knowledge, you can appreciate every single free squat! :D
How do these other cultures rest and nurse their babies without comfortable chairs?

Ah yes hammocks!
